It’s still cold out most days but I’m thinking about the garden for the new year. Right now there isn’t a lot going on in the garden.

The garlic shoots look fine. They aren’t doing a lot but it hasn’t warmed up much at all yet. We have some greens that have been hanging on despite the cold temperatures.

But it’s time to start thinking about what we want to plant for the new year. Tomatoes, I think. And zucchini. More strawberries too, maybe. I want to go to Baker Creek‘s website and browse the catalog for seeds.

We have over a foot of snow out there so haven’t really thought much about the garden, other than missing our fresh tomatoes every time I use store bought ones! Dad and I have talked about planting a Roma, meaty type this time. We’d like to try roasting them. Any especially good ones you know of? Kelly fixed a tomato pasta dish while we were in Texas that I liked a lot. Fresh organic spinach and canned organic whole tomatoes, pretty simple recipe. I’ve even made it once since we’ve been home!
We’ve been looking at the seed catalogs for a Roma type too! Not sure yet what we’ll plant. We think we’re going to go with a Zucchino Rampicante for the zucchini. It is a vining zucchini that produces an interesting squash. There’s a couple who blogged about it with pictures.
I also really miss our fresh lettuce and baby spinach! Luckily we don’t have to wait as long to partake of them!! We can get them in fairly early in the season, not as early as you though. It’s sunny out today, very pretty. Spring is still aways off here.
