July 3rd Overview

Time just keeps flying past. We’re getting some excellent produce from Boistfort Valley Farm – our CSA. In our own little neck of the woods the porch garden continues to grow. It hasn’t taken over the porch like last year but things are coming along.
July 3rd Overview
The chard and sunflowers continue to grow very well in the first box. Our leaf miner issues continue but less damage has been done since I’ve been gettin rid of the eggs. Something has been nibbling holes in the sunflower leaves.

Our Siletz tomatoes haven’t done very well.

One plant fell over, broken off at the base. That does seem to be a problem in these containers with many plants – weak trunks at the soil-edge. The other continues to grow. This morning I planted roma tomatoes in the empty half. They may not have time but I had the seeds and figured I’d give them a shot.

Our herb box is picking up. We also got another pot with basil just behind the sunflowers.

The Thai tomatoes are doing well. The largest is already blooming.

I’m looking forward to more fresh Thai tomatoes this year. We really enjoyed them last year.

The lettuce decided it must be time to go to seed and started to shoot up.

After taking the picture I harvested the lettuce – it played a large role in last night’s salad along with some other greens from the CSA. This morning I planted some thumbelina carrots. It might be a bit warm but the box does get a fair amount of shade. I guess we’ll see if they do anything. The remaining sunflower in the box is slowly getting bigger – I think it’d like more sun.
