First CSA Pickup

Today was our first CSA pickup. I went down to the Olympia Farmers Market. It was a beautiful day to be downtown. The market was full of venders and patrons. I wandered around for awhile peeking at all the different booths before finding the Boistfort Valley Farm booth. There I picked up my box.

This weeks shipment had carrots, beets, easter egg radishes, shunkyo radishes, artichokes, fresh garlic, brunia lettuce, winter desity lettuce, strawberries, and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. I’ve already nibbled on quite a few of the strawberries and will be making a salad for our dinner tonight.

Fresh garlic, carrots, and shunkyo radishes. I love the little radishes you get at the grocery store and can’t wait to try two new types.

Artichokes, easter egg radishes, and beets. I adore artichokes, if there had been more than two in the box I would have had one for lunch today. Instead I’ll cook them tomorrow night. I’ve only ever had pickled beets, which I like but I think Ryan would hate. I think I might make the steamed beets recipe that came with the veggies to go along with our salad tonight.

I love bouquets of flowers. My Mom, a wonderful gardener, always had fresh flowers in the house. I’ve really missed that.

Hopefully my Mom will be visiting next week and we can lunch at the Farmers Market. I also want to bring some extra money and visit some of the other booths. They had some fish venders and butchers that looked interesting. I didn’t want to buy any from them today because I wasn’t sure how long the trip back would take me, but the buses all connect well and the trip home isn’t really that long.
